"IT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAT YOUR WEBSITE MAKES MONEY FOR YOU THAN LOOKS BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED"
|

I have seen people waste between £1,500 and £16,000 on a website design that looks good but actually delivers very little in terms of sales. Make sure you do not fall into this trap.

My advice to you is that you must have a clear strategy and understanding of what you want from your website design and therefore what you want visitors to do. Your website does not have to be a design masterpiece and should be constructed from the customers point of view and not yours, paying particular attention to the keywords you know rather than think you know, that customers are using. And finally do not over pay for website design |

It is less than 10 years since the dot com boom and regrettably the dot com bust. The only company that most people remember that survived and this was only with substantial investment was Lastminute.com. Yet today it seems that everybody has a website and online trading is common place as well as growing exponentially.
To understand how to be successful, it is important to learn from the mistakes of the past. There are three distinct phases in the growth of websites and we are just entering the third which will be the most significant, most innovative, most dynamic and most profitable phase, particularly for small and medium size businesses.
PHASE 1
The technology phase
The internet started life as a tool for academics to quickly share and exchange data with each other, with other universities, across not just |

a country but around the globe. Some very innovative people saw a commercial application for this but also recognised that generally speaking academics and technicians are not good at website design, so set about addressing this. The result been that the value moved to the designer who employed a technician or website builder to apply their creative work.
PHASE 2
The design phase
This phase has been going on for about a decade now and has produced some very good looking websites. The reality though is that a lot of these are either on line brochures or “me too” websites i.e. “the competition has a website, I suppose I should create a website that is similar” syndrome. The result being that the value is now shifting to the hard nosed marketing fact of life of “How can our website produce sales and customers for us?”
My advice to you is that it is now possible to get a website designed very cheaply, never pay a fortune to a website designer unless they can demonstrate to you a strategy that you are confident can win you sales.
PHASE 3
The marketing phase
This phase will last a very long time as it is about applying the very best marketing and customer service skills to the internet. To realise your website’s potential you either have to have or have access to, specialist on line marketing skills. It is no longer enough to design a nice website, it must produce results - strategy is all important.
It is no coincidence that the most successful websites in the world like Amazon, Google, eBay et al are from a design perspective also the most simple. From a marketing perspective though they are brilliant. I can show you how to apply the best on line marketing techniques in the world to your website and win good quality loyal customers.
